(1):BDO Products Application
BDO(1,4-butylene glycol)→PBS(poly butylene suecinate):BDO is an important basic organic chemical material as well as a fine chemical material with extensive application and its derivatives are fine chemical products with high added value and are widely used in solvent, pharmaceutical, polyurethane, fiber, engineering plastics, cosmetics, plasticizer, hardening agent, pesticide and etc.
BDO is now mainly used to produce tetrahydrofuran (THF), polytetrahydrofuran (PTMEG), γ-butyrolactone (GBL), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), biodegradable resin (PBS), polyurethane (PU), N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP), etc.
(2):PTMEG
PTMEG is a polymer of tetrahydrofuran and obtained from tetrahydrofuran by way of catiolic ring opening polymerization in the presence of catalyst. Its name is Polytetramethylene Ether Glycol and for short, PTMEG. Its other names in common use are furfuryl polyether, polytetramethylene ether glycol. PTMEG is hydroxyl-terminated polyether diol and is white wax-like solid at ambient temperature and becomes transparent liquid after melting with no certain melting point and freezing point but with certain hygroscopicity and oxidability. It is flammable at high temperature, somewhat toxic under normal temperature but irritating to skin and eyes
(3):γ-butyrolactone (GBL)
Using copper as catalyst, γ-butyrolactone (GBL) can be obtained through gaseous phase or liquid phase catalytic dehydrogenation of BDO. GBL is the second largest consumer of BDO in China. BDO is a highly soluble, non-toxic, safe and convenient high-boiling-point solvent. In organic synthesis, it is used to produce α-pyrrolidone and N-Methyl pyrrolidone and a series of high value-added products such as vinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and so on are derived, these products are widely used in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and etc.
(4):THF application
Tetrahydrofuran, an important organic chemical material and a fine chemical raw material, is widely used in resin solvents (tape coating, PVC surface coating, reactor cleaning, glass paper coating, plastic printing ink, thermoplastic polyurethane coating), reaction solvents (Grignard reagent, alkali alkyl metal compound and alkali aryl metal compound, aluminum hydride, boron hydride and organic high polymer), chemical intermediates (polytetramethylene ether, generated from tetrahydrofuran and 1,4-butylene glycol through polycondensation is called PTMG for short and polytetramethylene through further polycondensation is called PIG for short, tetrahydrofuran polyether through ring opening polymerization can be used as raw materials for producing spandex as well as natural gas odorant), chromatographic solvent (Gel permeation chromatography).
(5):Polyurethane (PU)
BDO as chain extender and raw material of polyester can be used to produce thermoplastic or casting polyurethane elastomer as well as soft polyurethane foam.
